Setting the Standard: Kierra Mathern’s Impact on DSU HF Marketing

The DSU Heritage Foundation is proud to highlight Kierra Mathern, whose energy, creativity, and genuine care have strengthened how the DSU HF connects with alumni and the broader community.

Kierra first joined the Foundation in 2019 as a work-study student and quickly became someone others looked to for leadership. In 2022, she stepped into her full-time role, and her influence has continued to grow. Today, she leads marketing, communications, and social media efforts and supports major events such as Give Day and Yuletyme. Her ability to bring the Blue Hawk spirit to life—both online and in person—has become one of her strongest contributions.

Executive Director Ty Orton shared his appreciation for her work, noting, “Kierra has grown from a work-study student into a key part of our team. The way she has strengthened our marketing and alumni outreach is incredible. We’re setting the bar for other small universities because of the work she helps lead. She shows up with a great attitude, cares deeply about our alumni and Dickinson State, and is always willing to jump in wherever she’s needed.”

Kierra often says that what she loves most about working at the Foundation is the people. The positive atmosphere, teamwork, and shared mission keep her excited about coming to work—even on the challenging days. She’s especially proud when alumni and community members feel connected and valued, because it reminds her why the work matters. She looks forward to all that’s ahead for the DSU Heritage Foundation and the campus she cares deeply about.

Outside of her role with the Foundation, Kierra enjoys time with her family, trying new restaurants, finding a good cup of coffee, and taking a well-earned nap when she gets the chance. She and her husband, Krew Mathern, share their home with two dogs, Moose and Beru, and are excited to welcome their first child in March.

Kierra looks forward to all that’s ahead for the DSU Heritage Foundation and the campus she cares deeply about!
