Kyle Smith '12
Development Officer, Athletics & Rodeo
A Dickinson State graduate, Kyle originally found DSU by way of Ft. Collins, Colorado. In his time as a Blue Hawk, he has been a player, coach, announcer, and volunteer. In the spring of 2021, Kyle joined the DSU Heritage Foundation staff and was charged with leading the creation of the Blue Hawk Scholarship Fund, to support the student-athletes at Dickinson State University. Kyle is married to another DSU graduate, Brittney (Morast) Smith ’11 from Beulah, North Dakota. Together, they have two future Blue Hawks, Brannigan and Jett.

Pete Stanton '89
Athletic Director
A pillar of consistency in the Dickinson State Athletic Department for over 30 years, Pete was named the 15th Head Coach of the Blue Hawk Football team in December of 2013. Adding to his list of duties in 2017, Pete was named Interim Athletic Director and soon after, Athletic Director of Dickinson State University.
Pete married his wife Candace (Johnson) Stanton ’91 in the winter of 2010. Their kids Luke ‘17 and Maddy ‘23 both attended DSU.

Ty Orton
Executive Director
Originally hired as the Blue Hawks Men’s Basketball Coach in 2007, Ty has served Dickinson State in leading fundraising efforts since his arrival. Upon joining the coaching staff, Ty began working closely with the Blue Hawk Booster Club to assist in raising scholarships for student-athletes. In December of 2015, Ty was appointed, Executive Director of the DSU Heritage Foundation. Since his appointment, the DSU Heritage Foundation has raised millions of dollars in scholarships to deserving students at Dickinson State. On average, thanks to the generous support of alumni and supporters, the DSU Heritage Foundation awards $1.1 million in scholarships Ty and his wife Michelle have two sons, Tristan and Cooper.

Formerly known as, the Booster Campaign and the Blue Feather Athletic Association, the mission is unchanged. Build the number one athletic program in the NAIA.
