The Blue Hawks flocked back to campus at the end of August, and a full schedule of events for the Fall semester started immediately. While the students will spend September getting familiar with their courses, the campus, and each other, staff at the DSU Heritage Foundation (DSU HF) and the Theodore Roosevelt Center (TRC) are already thinking about October’s biggest events.

The month will start with three straight days of Homecoming festivities bringing “plenty of opportunities to reconnect with old friends, meet new people, and experience the traditions that make Homecoming at DSU so special,” according to Chloe Gunderson (’26), DSU HF Director of Alumni Relations & Events. “We’re excited to bring our alumni and friends back to Dickinson for a great lineup of events, from the Alumni Honors Banquet and Hall of Fame Luncheon to Homecoming Game Day at the BAC.”

October will also bring two major events from the TRC, first a special dinner on October 8th for friends of the TRC and the DSU HF. Special guest speaker Dr. Janet L. Walsh, president of the Irish Business Association of New York, businesswoman, and archeologist, will share her leadership experience and love of Theodore Roosevelt to kick off the first-ever Theodore Roosevelt Convention, or TeddyCon, from October 9-11. “The event is very nearly sold out, and we have dozens of sponsors and exhibitors attending,” noted TRC Co-Director Michael Cullinane. “Visitors will have so much more than the speaker sessions. Activities at the TR National Park, at the DSU rodeo, at the convention center, and in the TR Presidential Library will make this a lively event.”

While TR scholars and enthusiasts begin a weekend full of TeddyCon activities, the first college rodeo in the new Dale Little Soldier Arena will begin at 10 am on October 9th. Coaches Joe Schmidt and Heidi Uecker-Schmidt have been hard at work building the team and preparing them for the Blue Hawk Rodeo team’s first year in the Big Sky Region. “The Dale Little Soldier Blue Hawk Stampede will allow us to bring together all the people that made this building possible; it will for sure be a great weekend at Dickinson State!” said Kyle Smith (’13), DSU HF Development Officer for Athletics and Rodeo.
