Track and Field athletes, coaches, and supporters closed out the year at the 2026 NAIA Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Asheville, N.C. from May 20th – 22nd, including 14 athletes from Dickinson State University (DSU). Led by head coach and DSU alum Shayne Wittkopp (’08), the Blue Hawks ended the outdoor season with twelve All-American performances, one National champion, and the Women’s third place team standing.

Adarra Hagelund secured the championship title for the women’s high jump with a personal best of 1.81 meters, while Kori Nagel earned three All-American honors placing third in discus, third in shot put, and seventh in hammer throw. Codi Nagle was a national runner-up in the javelin and fourth in the shot put while Chloe Gunderson rounded out the DSU women’s All-American honors with a sixth place showing in the shot put.

The DSU men placed 20th as a team with standout individual performances. Dylan Dahlgren earned two All-American honors by placing second in the hammer throw and seventh in discus. Caleb Sarsland finished seventh in the 10,000 meters. Adrien Calderon and Ty Lieschner tied for sixth place in the pole vault.

Wittkopp was a six-time national qualifier as a Blue Hawk athlete and a top ten finisher at the NAIA National track meet in the men’s triple jump. In 2004, 2005, and 2006, Shayne was a member of the DSU Outdoor National Championship teams, and in 2003, the runner-up team. He first coached for the Blue Hawks as an assistant jumps coach in 2007. His athletic and coaching experience was supported this season by assistant throws coach Tanner Gust and assistant mid-distance and distance coach Dr. Thomas Schwartz. “I was very proud of the men and women performance this weekend. They represented the university very well. We’re all sad to see our seniors finish their final competition. They have done such a fantastic job elevating the program over their time. Their performance on the weekend speaks highly of all the teams hard work over the season,” said Wittkopp
