The DSU Heritage Foundation (DSU HF) is full of passionate and energetic staff members, including students working part-time through the university’s work-study program. Andrew Williams and Xeia Schneider are both sophomore students at Dickinson State University (DSU) and recently shared their perspectives on working at the DSU HF.

Andrew Williams chose to attend DSU because of its affordability and athletic programs. Williams is majoring in biology, has completed a chemistry minor, and is earning a second minor in leadership through the Theodore Roosevelt Honors Leadership Program (TRHLP). He also competes with the Blue Hawk Cheerleading team. As a first-time DSU HF work-study student, Williams helps the full-time staff with a variety of tasks, especially during the setup for their annual events. His favorite DSU HF event is Give Day because of the contagious energy in the 24 hours where the entire DSU campus comes together to reach a common goal.
Williams is starting a new year and new semester with plans to study hard and increase his contribution to the local community. “I love to hang out with everybody, and working here never feels like a job because we truly have so much fun,” said Williams, who enjoys being involved in every aspect of the DSU experience. In his free time, Williams enjoys running, lifting, and reading his Bible. Williams is just beginning to research dental schools, as he plans to continue his studies after DSU and specialize in orthodontics.

Xeia Schneider is the second hardworking sophomore work-study student with the DSU HF this year. She knew that the people and atmosphere at DSU would help guide her towards her best self. Schneider is majoring in psychology with a minor in leadership through the TRHLP. A cheerleader on the competitive team that is just entering competition season, Schneider still finds time to commit as an assistant coach to the local high school cheer team. As with Williams, Schneider’s role with the DSU HF also includes being a helping hand wherever needed, but she enjoys working on social media and editing tasks the most.
Schneider’s favorite DSU HF event is Yuletyme because the work put into the annual event proves just how committed the DSU HF staff are to each other and their goals. “I know I can rely on anyone in there and be myself completely. When you work [at the DSU HF], they show you how much they care about you,” said Schneider. In her free time, Schneider turns inward to focus on worship and excelling in her education and sport. After earning her bachelor's degree, Schneider plans to pursue a master's and then a doctorate in psychology and work as a psychologist.
