Donor Spotlight: Bonnie (’80) & Neal (’82) Messer Building Bright Futures

Bonnie (’80) and Neal (’82) Messer are both proud alumni of Dickinso

n State University (DSU) and stay connected to the Blue Hawk family with the Neal & Bonnie Messer Endowed Scholarship. “We believe that scholarship recipients are already on their path to a successful future by choosing DSU to continue their education,” said the Messers, “and our hope is that in some small way we make it easier for them for them to achieve their goals.”

The Messers established their scholarship because they believe higher education transforms lives. With college costs continuing to rise, they hope their support eases the financial burden for students and helps reduce the need for student loans. Although they have only recently begun awarding scholarships, the heartfelt thank-you notes they've received have reinforced the impact of their giving.

"Bonnie and Neal Messer understand the value of a DSU education, and they've chosen to pay it forward through their scholarship,” remarked Ty Orton, DSU Heritage Foundation Executive Director. “Their generosity not only creates opportunities for DSU students but also sends a powerful message that our alumni believe in their success."

Summertime with the Messers is spent enjoying the lake and soaking up every moment with their four grandchildren. Neal’s service on the Blue Hawk Booster Board and the couple’s attendance at Blue Hawk athletic and booster events keep their connection to DSU strong, and they hope their scholarship inspires fellow alumni to invest in the next generation of Blue Hawks.
