The 2026 DSU Alumni & Friends Bismarck Golf Event on July 14 was a tremendous success for the DSU Heritage Foundation (DSU HF). Despite the 98-degree day the tournament was full, with team rosters comprised of alumni, friends, and Dickinson State University (DSU) supporters. Everyone gathered at the Riverwood Golf Course for golf, socializing, and dinner thanks to the outstanding hospitality provided by both Riverwood and AMVETS.
"It was wonderful to reconnect with so many members of the DSU family and see our DSU Heritage Foundation team and DSU coaches engaging with participants throughout the day,” said Robyn McChesney, DSU Heritage Foundation Development. “Despite the sunny 100-degree temperatures, everyone enjoyed a fun and memorable day on the course.”

The 2026 Bismarck Golf Difference Makers were Joe (’76) and Kathy Ibach. As a student at Dickinson State University (DSU) Joe Ibach attended a presentation on the opportunities in the appraisal industry that put him down a career path for the next 50 years. In 1982 he founded Dakota Appraisal & Consulting in Bismarck, ND. While enjoying their time together and chasing after grandkids, the Ibach’s support of the DSU HF and DSU has grown from simple sponsorships of this very golf event into significant contributions, endowments, and scholarships. In 2025, Joe was selected by fellow DSU Football Alumni to represent the 1970’s during the 100 Years of Football Celebration as their honorary captain, a recognition that became one of the “crowning highlights” of his athletic career. In 2026, the Ibach’s made their most meaningful contribution to Dickinson State, by starting their very own Named Scholarship, which will support a student pursuing a 4-year degree at DSU for many years to come.
There were many winners of the 2026 DSU Alumni & Friends Bismarck Golf Event, starting with Todd Fisher, Guy Fridley, Matt Hanson, and Fred Fridley Sr. of the 1st place team. Prizes were also awarded to Jack, Huesby, Terry Seversen, Jon Schroeder, and Dave Weiler for a team effort of 2nd place, Roger Ternes, Dana Ribinius, Gary Malkowski, and Jon Hendrickson for 8th place, Pat Wanner, Odie Wanner, Ken Bohlman, and Mick Radamaker for 16th place, and Dave Meschke, Kooper Ray, Paxton Miller, and Keaton Meschke for 21st place. The “Most Honest Team” taking up the final position included players Lee Skaarvold, Ryan Skaarvold, Dwayne Berger, and Ken Roshau.

Individual competitions for prizes were full of excitement as well, with John Schell taking “Closest to the Pin”, Kori Kimball and Todd Schmidt hitting the longest women’s and men’s drive, and Vince Reep securing the longest putt.
The DSU HF would like to thank the DSU HF Golf Committee: Rob Bollinger, Bob Baumann, Bob Green, and Brian Jesperson. A special thank you goes to DSU President Scott
Molander, Bob Green, and Roger Erickson for keeping golfers hydrated by delivering water across the course in the DSU Heritage Foundation cruiser, and to Coach Fleury, Athletic Director Pete Stanton, and DSU golfer Sam Lewton for helping everyone make it onto the green. We also extend our sincere appreciation to our generous sponsors: Tournament Sponsor Dick Keller; Gold Sponsors Fireside Office Solutions, Bob Baumann (’79), Joe (’76) and Kathy Ibach , and Laughing Sun Brewery; and Hole Sponsors Dakota Community Bank, Kirkwood Bank, NISC Mandan, and Paramount Real Estate. Thank you to everyone who participated and supported this wonderful DSU tradition!
