On December 13th the Biesot Activities Center (BAC) will transform for the DSU Heritage Foundation’s (DSU HF) Yuletyme event, an annual night of entertainment, auctions, dinner, and dancing all in the name of student scholarship support. This year’s theme is Heroes vs. Villains. While the preparations begin months in advance, with committees meeting regularly beginning in August, the success of the event often depends on the “phenomenal amount of work” the DSU HF staff puts in during the week leading up to Yuletyme, according to DSU HF Office Manager Pam Rudolph.

The week of the event kicks off with several team meetings to finalize details and maintain constant communication among the 11 lead positions, each responsible for specific aspects of the event. The transformation of all three levels of the BAC is described as an “all hands-on-deck situation” by Kierra Mathern (’22), DSU HF Alumni Relations Director. This year, the lower level of the BAC will be decorated as Joker’s Lair, designed by the Blue Hawk Theatre Guild.

On the day of the Yuletyme event, staff arrive on site as early as 7 am and work through the day to add final touches, such as icing drinks, adjusting lighting, and ensuring all activities are ready for guests. Alongside the DSU HF staff, student volunteers from the DSU Cheerleading team, the TRHLP, and PBL ensure there are enough hands during the night to meet each guest’s needs and provide an unforgettable experience.

Multiple auctions, themed games, raffles, dinner in the decorated suites, and a DJ ready to wrap up the night with a celebratory dance keep the guests, staff, and volunteers moving the entire hour and a half of the event. The final dance is Kierra Mathern’s favorite moment of the event because “there are smiles all around and our staff feels proud of what was accomplished together. The work of the team is the perfect representation of the heart of the DSU HF. Every person deeply cares for the University, Foundation, and one another.”
