Randy and Karla Peters on Building a Lasting Partnership
Roses are red, violets are blue, I am the boss, and so are you.
According to Inc. Magazine, there are at least a quarter of a million "copreneurs" in the United States. Copreneurs are husband-and-wife teams who run businesses together. To some, this may sound romantic: twenty-four hours a day with the person you love. To others, it may sound like a life sentence without parole: twenty-four hours a day with the person you love.
Balancing Business and Family Life
Randy ’75 and Karla ’76 Peters, copreneurs who owned Four Seasons Trophies in Dickinson from 1977 to 2020, know from years of experience that working with one’s spouse offers both benefits and drawbacks.

Eldin L.R. Johnson Land & Livestock Endowed Scholarship
Eldin L.R. Johnson is a dedicated contributor to the DSU Heritage Foundation (DSU HF). Born in Williston, North Dakota in 1936, he grew up on a ranch near Watford City and attended a one-room grade school. In 1955, Johnson graduated with high honors from Watford City High School.
A Life of Hard Work and Exploration
After high school, Johnson pursued farming and, in 1957, purchased a 25-acre farm in Fairview, North Dakota. He expanded his operation to include various crops and livestock, using his business skills to buy used equipment and supplementing his income by working in the oil fields. He invested in oil minerals, and in 1980 he purchased a Hawk XP2 airplane to assist in managing his sheep herds.

Heather Cabral: The Student Photographer Behind the 100 Years of DSU Football Cover
As Dickinson State University (DSU) prepares to release 100 Years of DSU Football this summer, the cover of this commemorative book needed to be just as special as the history it honors. Enter Heather Cabral, a DSU sophomore and student photographer whose work will grace the front of this historic publication.
A Photographer in the Making
For Heather, photography isn’t just a hobby; it’s a lifelong passion. It all started in 2007, when she unwrapped her very first camera, a pink Little Tikes model gifted to her by her grandparents.
Kayla and Jesse Kilwein: Blue Hawk Love Story
Kayla (Ziemann) Kilwein ’13 and her husband, Jesse Kilwein ’12, share a love for performing arts, community, and, most importantly, each other.
The couple’s love story began in 2010 when Kayla arrived at Dickinson State University (DSU) to pursue a degree in education, already holding a degree in opera performance with a dance minor from another university. Initially, she had no plans to participate in extracurricular activities. Then, someone encouraged her to audition for Festival on the Dorothy Stickney stage.
I was cast as the female lead, and Jesse was cast as the male lead. Our characters, Aucassin and Nicolette, were in love,” Kayla recalled. “Pretty quickly, Jesse and I became good friends and eventually, we fell in love.” What started as an onstage romance soon blossomed into something real.
