The DSU Heritage Foundation (DSU HF) is full of passionate and energetic staff members, including students working part-time through the university’s work-study program. Here, Cheyenne Jabos shares her perspective on working with the DSU HF team as a junior at Dickinson State University (DSU).

DSU “felt like home as soon as I stepped on campus” according to Jacobs. Attracted by the strong campus community, Jacobs enrolled as a Physical and Health Education major with a minor in leadership as a member of the Theodore Roosevelt Honors Leadership Program (TRHLP). Jacobs fills her schedule as a TRHLP Student Assistant Director, Student Ambassador, Resident Assistant, Hawk Talk host, Blue Hawk Catholic member, and athlete on the DSU Women’s Golf Team. One of her favorite memories at DSU is last year’s NSAA Basketball Championship game against Jamestown. “The gym was packed wall to wall with students, faculty, staff, and alumni who came together to support something bigger than just the game. It was a celebration of the Blue Hawk family,” recalled Jacobs.

As a DSU HF work study student, Jacobs assists DSU HF events and projects, donor relations efforts, and the hall of fame website information. Jacobs enjoys witnessing the impact that involved donors, alumni, and supports have on DSU students and never tires of hearing their stories. “Everyone comes together in such amazing ways during Give Day, Homecoming, Yuletyme, etc.,” said Jacobs. This year Jacobs was a Give Day Ambassador and oversaw the 50 State Challenge, where the DSU HF worked to gather at least two donations from every state in the U.S.

This summer Jacobs is planning for lots of time on the golf course and with her family and friends. She hopes to attend the Master’s Tournament with her father one day, because it was the first tournament she watched as a child that sparked her love for golf. After graduating from DSU Jacobs plans to enroll in grad school for a double master’s in athletic administration and educational leadership in pursuit of a future position as an Athletic Director for a university.
