DSU HF Work Study Students: Meet Junior Adrien Calderon

The DSU Heritage Foundation (DSU HF) is full of passionate and energetic staff members, including students working part-time through the university’s work-study program. Adrien Calderon recently shared his perspective on working with the DSU HF team as a junior at Dickinson State University (DSU).

Calderon chose to attend DSU for the opportunity to compete in two collegiate sports and to pursue a degree aligned with his passion for athletics and leadership. Calderon is majoring in Exercise Science (Sports Management), with a focus on the administrative and leadership roles in athletics. As a Theodore Roosevelt Honors Leadership Program (TRHLP) scholar, he is also earning a minor in Leadership. In the Fall, Calderon is a wide receiver for the Blue Hawks Football team, and during the Spring is a pole vaulter for the Blue Hawks Men’s Track and Field team.

At the DSU HF, Calderon assists with event preparation and donor engagement. This includes preparing and facilitating several fundraising events held on

campus throughout the year. “My favorite part about working with the Heritage Foundation is being able to see how scholarships and donor support directly impact students. As a student athlete who receives scholarships, I have a personal understanding of how important this support really is,” said Calderon.

Calderon is already preparing for the outdoor track and field season and plans to use his DSU HF and TRHLP positions to stay involved with the local community this Spring. After graduation, Calderon will either pursue a career in athletic administration or enroll in graduate school in sports administration. “I want to be a part of building and maintaining a strong athletic program with a positive impact and influence on those around me,” explained Calderon. In his free time, Calderon loves spending time with friends and family outdoors, especially when it involves a golf course.
