The DSU Heritage Foundation (DSU HF) is full of passionate and energetic staff members, including students working part-time through the university’s work-study program. Samuel Lewton, the sole freshman work-study student, recently shared his perspective on working with the DSU HF team.

Lewton is a Dickinson native majoring in Exercise Science (Sports Management). His passion for golf led to a spot on the DSU Men’s Golf team. During the summer, Lewton golfs nonstop, and when the North Dakota winter sets in, he enjoys satisfying his competitive edge with Rainbow Six Siege. This is Lewton’s first year on campus as a student, and his first semester as a work-study student for the DSU HF, where he acts as a “floating” staff member. This means Lewton can walk into the office with a brand-new task every day. He welcomes this flexibility and enjoys helping with everything from hauling event materials across campus to assisting with “all-hands-on-deck” events, like Cowboys & Candlelight. For Lewton, seeing the behind-the-scenes work that happens every day at the DSU HF was “eye-opening.” He noticed the true enjoyment DSU HF staff get from their positions right away.

Looking forward, Lewton is getting ready for a trip to Arizona with the golf team and is determined to make the most of his first year. “I really want to put myself out there and meet new people.” His academic aspirations this year include earning the grades necessary to make the President’s List. After college, Lewton plans to “change things up” by moving to a big city and working as an event coordinator or AD.
