The DSU Heritage Foundation is honored to celebrate a gift rooted in community, compassion, and the enduring legacy of a young girl whose light continues to shine. The Go Grace Go Softball Annual and Endowed Scholarship, created by Dickinson Girls Fastpitch Softball Inc and The Badland Big Sticks in partnership with the Bittner family, was established in memory of Grace Lillian Bittner—a beloved daughter, sister, and inspiration.

Grace was born on May 30, 2010, in Dickinson, and quickly became known for her sharp mind, kind heart, and unmistakable spark. She was fiercely determined but gentle, quick to correct her dad when he was “silly,” and always insistent on being called by her name—“Just Grace.” She had a knack for making everyone around her feel seen and special. Her family affectionately recalls living life at “Grace Pace,” taking joy in life’s small, meaningful moments—stacking towers, FaceTiming loved ones, and being fully present with those she cared about most. At only 5 months old, Grace was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor; a challenge she faced with unwavering courage, grace, and strength throughout her life.
Throughout her life, Grace captured the hearts of all who met her. Whether it was sharing a dance with Princess Belle at Disney World or tossing a football with Carson Wentz (whom she proudly declared her boyfriend), Grace made memories that left a lasting impression. Her presence had a way of bringing people together—through the simple joys of life, through community events, and through a quiet strength that moved everyone who knew her story.

“Grace had a quiet strength and a way of bringing people together. This scholarship is our way of continuing her story—one filled with love, resilience, faith, and connection. We hope it encourages others to live with the same heart that she did.”
— Cory and Andrea Bittner, Parents of Grace
“This scholarship is a tribute to the enduring power of love, community, and the impact one life can have. It ensures that future student-athletes are not only supported in their education and sport, but also reminded of the values of perseverance, kindness, and purpose.”
— Kristin Fleury, DSU Head Softball Coach
“Establishing the Go Grace Go Scholarship has been one of the most meaningful moments in my time with the Foundation. It represents the heart of this community and honors a young girl whose spirit continues to inspire all of us. Grace’s legacy will live on through every student-athlete who carries her name forward on the field.”
— Ty Orton, Executive Director, DSU Heritage Foundation
Grace passed away peacefully on July 7, 2019, surrounded by the love of her family. Though her time was brief, her legacy is enduring. Each time a Blue Hawk softball player takes the field under the support of the Go Grace Go Scholarship, they’ll be playing for something bigger—for Grace, for perseverance, and for the love that made this gift possible.

The DSU Heritage Foundation extends its deepest gratitude to Dickinson Girls Fastpitch Softball Inc., The Badland Big Sticks, and the Bittner family for creating a legacy that ensures Grace’s story will continue to inspire generations to come.
