The donors who give Dickinson State University (DSU) students amazing opportunities through scholarship donations at the DSU Heritage Foundation (DSU HF) come from all over and have endless reasons for donating. Some choose to create a scholarship to honor a loved one or support a specific academic interest. Many donors are families, local businesses, alumni and even DSU staff and faculty. Kim Goodall remembers pinching pennies to pay for her own tuition. As an Instructor of English Education at DSU Goodall decided to help ease some of the stress on current DSU students through regular donations because she thinks that “modeling behavior is one of the best ways of teaching. By donating, as a DSU employee, we are modeling that we care deeply about our university and our students.”

Goodall moved to Dickinson 18 years ago with her husband Chad and started out in the real estate business. Both of Goodall’s parents were educators, and she missed that world. After a leap of faith to become a teacher herself, Goodall taught in public schools for 7 years before accepting her current position at DSU. This fall will mark her fourth year at DSU and Goodall is as excited as ever to welcome the students back to campus.

"As both an educator and donor, Kim Goodall demonstrates an exceptional commitment to student success,” said Ty Orton, Executive Director of the DSU Heritage Foundation. “She understands the power of education and leads by example through her ongoing support of scholarships. Her contributions help ensure that students can focus more on learning and less on financial barriers."

Goodall thoroughly enjoys being a part of the Blue Hawk family. Some of her favorite moments on campus include attending DSU athletic events where the stands are filled with supporters full of DSU pride. “I also absolutely love graduation! This year we had a student speaker who has come so far and is now so successful due, in part, to her time at DSU,” said Goodall. “What an inspiring person!” Goodall hopes that DSU HF scholarship recipients are hard working students with a desire to learn and a welcoming attitude.

Last semester, the Advising Center organized a round of thank you letters from students to DSU faculty members. Goodall was a recipient of many of the thank you letters, and it made a busy year all worthwhile. Looking forward, Goodall is getting ready to meet new and returning students for the Fall 2026 semester in her College Composition I and II courses.
