On Sunday, April 19th students from the Theodore Roosevelt Honors Leadership Program (TRHLP) hosted the ‘Spring Pop of Color’ event with the Southwest Art Gallery & Science Center. Families were invited to Dickinson State University (DSU) to welcome the season and foster creativity in the community. Madison Beckler, was the main contact between the TRHLP and the SW Art Gallery & Science Center and described the event as “an opportunity to incorporate science, art, and nature in a way that is more interactive than time in a gallery.”

Families created sidewalk chalk art, blew bubbles, played with slimes, and conducted elephant toothpastes experiments at the DSU Heritage Foundation parking lot. After an estimated 80-100 participants left, the parking lot was covered in art. Beckler and the other TRHLP students were thrilled with the direct parent-child interactions that resulted from the art and science experiments.

The Southwest Art Gallery & Science Center is a nonprofit with the mission to bring art and science programming to SW North Dakota. Participating TRHLP students included Loli Jarrett, Shadin Ell, Kate Enney, Smantha Greff, Kaden Ham, Luke Hieser, Mya Hentch-Robb, Tucker Fiene, and Emma Welch.
