When Rebecca Duben chose Dickinson State University (DSU) for her technology degree in 2010, she was looking for the flexibility to balance a full-time career and a growing family. Today, she is using that same foundation to help build a national library. As the Library Operations Project Coordinator for the Theodore Roosevelt Presidential Library (TRPL), Duben is helping build the visitor experience from the ground up.

Since joining TRPL in September 2025, Duben has facilitated cross-departmental coordination across nearly every aspect of the project, from exhibits and educational programs to facilities, security, and engagement. In her role, she works closely with the Library Operations Vice President and department leaders to strengthen communication and alignment across teams. Together, they ensure the work remains intentional, collaborative, and efficient as preparations continue for the July 4 grand opening.

Reflecting on the scale of the project, she said, “What excites me most is knowing that the structures and processes we are putting in place will shape the library experience for years to come. It is an honor to help build an institution designed to educate, inspire and endure.”

Throughout her 15 years within the North Dakota University System and with her time at the TRPL, Duben has learned that institutions do not succeed because of buildings or programs alone; they succeed because of people. She believes that education is about more than earning degrees. To Duben, it is about creating access, expanding perspective and preparing others for lives of purpose.

The TRPL honors one of the nation’s most revered presidents. Through its exhibits, programs and experiences, the library encapsulates the spirit of the American West, the resilience of the communities, natural resources, and the people who call it home.

“Throughout my career, I have seen that when we commit ourselves to something larger than our own success, we help create opportunities for those who come next," Duben said. "That has been, and continues to be, the most rewarding lesson of all.”

Today, Duben lives in Dickinson with her partner, Ross, and their blended family. As she prepares for the library's inaugural summer, she encourages current DSU students to stay curious and live with intention.

"Trust that every twist in the road is shaping you for something greater," she said.
