“100 Years of DSU Football” Earns National Communication Award
The commemorative book 100 Years of DSU Football earned third place in the nationally competitive 2026 Blue Pencil and Gold Screen Awards presented by the National Association of Government Communicators (NAGC).

Winners were honored May 12 during a ceremony at the Omni Rancho Las Palmas in Greater Palm Springs, California.
The NAGC Blue Pencil and Gold Screen Awards celebrate excellence in public-sector communication and attract entries from government agencies and organizations across the United States.
According to NAGC President Leslie Gervasio, the awards honor “the very best in public service communication,” recognizing exceptional creativity, clarity, and impact.
Competing organizations included major public agencies such as the United States Postal Inspection Service and the United States Geological Survey.
Written by Jim Dahl, Debora Dragseth, and Scooter Pursley, 100 Years of DSU Football chronicles the history of Blue Hawk football from its 1925 beginnings to the present day.
“Writing the story of Dickinson State football meant telling the story of generations of students, coaches, families, and fans,” Dragseth said. “We’re grateful the project has received this kind of national recognition.”
The award adds to a growing list of honors received by the publication since its release.
Limited copies of 100 Years of DSU Football remain available through the Dickinson State University Heritage Foundation. For purchasing information, contact the Foundation office at (701) 483-2486.
