As Dickinson State University Football celebrates its historic 100th season, the capstone chapter of the centennial commemorative book turns the spotlight toward what lies ahead for Blue Hawk football, offering insights from coaches, alumni, and community leaders as DSU prepares to join the highly competitive Frontier Conference in 2025.
In “One Hundred Years Strong: Blue Hawk Football Faces a Bold New Era,” veteran journalist Mike Zimmer explores why this move marks a natural and strategic evolution. With positive endorsements from Montana broadcasting icon Rocky Erickson, Billings West head coach Rob Stanton, and Dickinson radio legend Rod Kleinjan, the chapter illustrates how DSU’s strong coaching staff, deep Montana recruiting ties, and unwavering fan support make it a “perfect fit.”
Another key feature of the chapter, “Scholarships: The Lifeblood of Blue Hawk Athletics,” highlights the growing importance of financial support in securing DSU’s athletic future. The story of former athlete Myren Moore, who overcame financial hardship thanks to DSU Heritage Foundation scholarships, serves as a powerful reminder of the life-changing impact of donor generosity.
“Supporting scholarships isn’t just an investment in sports, it’s an investment in futures,” the authors note. With over 460 student-athletes across 16 teams, DSU’s commitment to expanding scholarships is vital to maintaining excellence in the new conference era.
The book concludes with a reflective afterword from long-time KDIX broadcasters Rod Kleinjan and Jim Dahl, as well as a comprehensive legacy in numbers detailing:
DSU Football All-Americans
NAIA All-American honorees
Second Team and Honorable Mention All-Americans
